Folks in the know any advice.plse.
No I mostly use the Zed for sprints and hill climbs, sge has 105k miles on her. Through poor dtiver technique and chasing times I gave miss geared a few times, not many, but the clutch has slways recovered. I guess its original.
Thinking of replacing with a solid flywheel and uprated cutch. Similar to the attached or even the product if feedback is decent.

Any thoughts

The DMF is there to protect the gearbox, and the gearbox has been designed on the assumption that it is protected with a DMF.

That said, I have removed mine and the only protection is the springs in the friction plate.

The other advantage is that the mass moment of inertia is reduced, so acceleration will be faster.

If you are using your Z as a race car of any kind, it is a no-brainer, in my opinion. Just be aware of the downside. Everything is a compromise.

I tracked my Z3 alot and ran a 9kg solid flywheel car is still going strong now. Just make sure there is a heavy spring rated clutch disc to absorb some vibrations.

I got one of these a few months ago, an XTD from the States, takes a ‘96-99 e36 spring clutch.

45% lighter than the 6cyl clutch the blurb says.
I have the M44 4cyl, I’ll be having it, and the cover, balanced to that.
Lots of variations on eBay.com

It looks like most of the 45% has been removed from near the centre. That will have a very small effect compared to any weight that can be removed from the outer edge.

Every little helps, but make sure you know what you are looking at. A lightened clutch does not have to weigh less, but the "point mass" will be closer to the centre.

This is why Formula One clutches look like more like a bean can than a pizza, but the bean can and the pizza could both weigh the same.

Not my first lightened ‘wheel Pingu, most of the mass is off the rear face, I may have a little more off the outer edge when I have everything balanced, I’ll consult the guys at West of Scotland on that when I’m allowed to drive again.
Oh and I missed out most of these US off the shelf ‘ wheels are designed around the 240mm ‘96-99 M3 clutch.

I forgot to add.
There are very light aluminium flywheels available, approx 4-5 kg, replaceable steel wear surface.
If you go down that route you have to use stud and bearing lock on the bolts, not standard thread lock, torque them to the upper limit. Use those expensive American bolts I can never remember the name of, or equivalent. Even then you may have to wire lock the bolts.
I have an Ali wheel for a Suzuki project, it’ll have all of the above and 3M friction shims.
