My Events in 2019 an Update.

Please read and understand why this is happening. You have all been warned.

Well it has been a hard few years getting these of the ground and as many of you know I do try to improve them each time.

2019 will be trying something different on several fronts. One of these is below.

I am going to do away with running the ‘groups’ format. As, it has become increasingly difficult to get group leaders and people to act as ‘tail ends’ keeping the groups together.

So.

Everybody will be given the details on the post for

1. The Route in a .pdf (a print from google maps with directions)

2. The Post Codes near as, to the route in key places.

3. Where we are looking at stopping, this also means you can stop when and where you want too.

4. The file name on my-route. So you can download the relevant file to your sat nav.

This will enable more people to enjoy the run and also if you do not feel like it. Its up to you and nobody else. You can if you fancy it stop to take in the views or if you want to push on to the agreed stops you can do. It is that simple.

Please make sure your Sat Nav can run downloaded routes.

I am not able to help as I have no idea what some can, and cannot do. Please consult the manual or research on Google.

The events I am looking at in 2019.

April / May
The New Forest run will be back.

June / July
Help for Heros Giving Something Back.

September
The South Downs.

All dates are yet to be confirmed as I am awaiting on certain responses.

In addition to these, I will be looking at adding a few single events.

Keep looking at the Events Pages for more information.

My s***'s custom!
I like it. It means you will never need to cap numbers either.

I'll need to find a copilot with decent navigation skills!...in fact, that could be fun...give out maps for the day and have a no satnav rule! Keep the passengers busy. Zed orienteering =))

@Mac Romans It also means that the participants will have to engage more in the day. So it will be an interesting year.

@chrisjw The events are already becoming listed on the event threads. You need to put you name on the thread concerned.

This has come about because we are unable to get the required group leaders and tail end drivers. Its also much nicer to not to have to pressgang friends into taking groups.

As it says in the main post. The route will be posted in a pdf as well as a file on the free my-route web site. You just have to down load it and install it on your sat nav. Also means people can have the freedom to do as much or as little as they wish as well as taking the route or not.

It has worked on a few test runs and to be honest I feel it then will not limit the amount of people that are coming. The only issue for me is the parking and where to make stops. The organising of these events takes many hours over many months and its a huge cost too with all the driving of the routes in advance. The people that organise these get no reward for doing such. That is what makes this forum so good that people are happy to contribute. So I think asking for a little back is not a great deal breaker.

I remember when we organised a Derbyshire cruise in 2015. Must have driven it 5 times and then sorting places with parking and coping with numbers for food was a mare in itself. Our lunch stop promised the world, we had our own room, loads of parking etc but they'd lost the food order I had given them 2 weeks before and it all went to s***. I don't blame Paul for giving this a go, Were on the New forest run next year so be good to see how it pans out.

Can only agree with this comment. We usually spend up to £250 on our September cruise. Only because we want to, but it does creep up.

Tony.

@t-tony .. I can agree with that.. The event in September just gone involved me doing dry runs of the Saturday and Sunday routes.. Doing both several times clocked up about 600 miles. Organising the locations for food too as you know can be a nightmare. If it was not for Sam @Shortie_gal doing the Saturday evening meal it would have been a complete mare.

Then again I am doing it all agin but with the new way of doing the bigger events.

To all the fellow forum members who organise events. Thank you..

Only sadly been to a couple events and look on in awe of the Callander the last couple of years and appreciate the efforts and time members make to make these enjoayable times happen. I’m looking forward to going home for good next year so the wife said:whistle: and for me to sort the ///M out it needs to be driven and meet some fine company.

It can be stressful, there's lots of things that can go wrong and many of these are out of your control. All you are aiming for is for everyone who comes to support your day has a great time (and some come a long way, pay for hotels etc) But that said when people do enjoy themselves and everything goes to plan its very rewarding. A change of format I think may just make an event a little more stress free and enjoyable for all.

BUT @pgunter if the New Forest run goes Pete Tong I'll be changing back to groups for the Wye Valley and you're leading one  =))=))=))

@Nodzed if the New Forest goes wrong then it’s because certain people .. cough cough .. not naming ... can not follow a route or map

I am determined to make it work.

I'm sure it will be fine Paul:thumbsup:. It'll be good to try something new. There's been a lot of group runs on the forum and the chat is normally about either how fast the group has gone / why don't people keep up depending on your viewpoint. This will enable people to go at the speed they are comfortable with, without worrying if they are holding the group up or about getting lost. And yes I agree with the comments about the time/money required to set up runs. I've lost count of the number of recces we've done for Mint's Cruises;), and the number of tea rooms we've had to try:whistle:

This sort of format would suit me. I enjoy the meets but feel a bit of a prat driving around in procession.

Well today was the day. The New Forest run. 40 plus zeds and 1 Audi @GazHyde ..

It works... and it works well. Everybody enjoyed themselves at their own pace. I think it’s going to be the way forward. Less hassle sorting group leaders and sweepers. Less hassle of making sure everybody is in the group.

You thoughts on today (those that came along, that is) are welcome.

Well Nikki and myself had a great day. Fantastic setting and some great roads. Having the wrong map gave Nikki a headache because she was convinced we were going the wrong way....which we were lol. luckily I spotted another car and tagged on. Definitely up for it again. And thanks for arranging.
