I was just getting myself ready with the parts I need to do the shift pins. And checking the prices. Not from a dealer over the counter but from a usually reliable source.

Fifth gear detent pin

£75 for the fifth gear detent pin! And this is consistent with several good US sites and ebay (even more here but always is).

Anyone bought this part recently? Strictly speaking how much are the reverse and fifth gear pins really required for the job?

Yeah this went up a few months ago. BMW ran out of stock and had to get them made somewhere else hence the price going up. It’s really annoying as the 5th gear is the most important pin.

To make life easier get the drift kit for the job, that kit is the difference easy and hard.

Ouch. Just ordered a set of drift pins from the States as our local supplier not currently producing any.

Sounds like a good opportunity for someone to make their own fifth gear pins as £75 is too much for me to swallow. I shall have to give the current one a good polish and put it back in.

You'll be fine to do that with the 5th gear pin, It's the PTFE liner in the sleeve that breaks down causing it to stick to the pin itself.

Thanks for confirming. I hoped you'd say that. I don't mind replacing these pins routinely when they're £15 but needed to understand more about them at £75.

Looking forward to the 'How to'......
@Lee has covered this a couple of times in Zedshed projects. So I'm using that.
