Gauge cluster swap

Can I just replace the cluster on my 97 z3 with another z3 and do I have to worry about the mileage or anything

You will end up with a tamper dot on the replacement clock and the milage will be over written if yours is higher I believe this thread about swapping over coding plugs might be useful, there are also other threads to read if you use the search function.

Instrument cluster coding plugs - swapping

One for the serious techies here I think. Taking an instrument cluster coding plug from a m44 1.9 pre-facelift and putting it into a 2.8 99 facelift...... Will it work as is ? Or need some coding correction ? I can see the part numbers on the two plugs in question are identical. I've swapped...

If you keep the screen showing the mileage you can swap over the gauge element no problem at all. Just unscrew it and swap over. We've done this many times.
