I’m looking at possibly getting a newish Z4, most likely the 2.0.
Are there any issues I should be looking out for?

I know about one that had its electronic module replaced because of a system update that turned the multimedia system into a brick and another that had roof gremlins and all switches had to be replaced under warranty, probably because they were bored to find the broken one.
This one also still has some issues with headlights condensation.
Both bought used and were supposedly dealer demo vehicles.
Driven one of them with the 2.0 and it was quick at low speeds, but breathless over 150km/h. I guess this in the UK is now highly illegal so you shouldnt worry about it.

What you want is a lovely, low mileage E89 in the best colour. Save thousands against an ugly G29.

Yes they are, as an all round package a fantastic car and the boot space is twice that of an E89. We did a 4week European trip last year and had enough luggage space for the whole trip . Attached a picture of boot. 4 bags the size of the visable ones plus’s space down the side for shoes etc. there’s also a jack, breaker bar, torque wrench and tyre inflator in there too. Cabin is also a very nice place to be, test drove a Boxster 4.0 GTS before deciding which to order, the Porsche felt so dated and cramped in comparison, I’m 6’2

I’ve done nearly 40k in my two and not really had any issues. Alternator power module went but the car had been tapped while parked the day before, I think they were related. Lights are designed to condensate and clear almost immediately so not to trap water in. First time it happened I thought oh sh!t. Went in to the house and by the time I came back out they were clear. Happens in both cars every time I wash them.

Both mine M40’s, never driven a 2.0 so no experience with it. Would it be new or used? quite a few of Z4 forum users went for the 30 (2.0) which it a higher tune of the 20. The 30 is no longer available.

Member on her has just bought a lovely 20 and is happy with it HTH

Thanks @Argyll Andy thats good to hear.
looking at an early used one circa 2019. I’ve not ruled out the M40 yet, but it’s probably way more power than we need. (If that really matters🤣🤣)
Luckily no bad reviews and my neighbour gave the thumbs up. He is a bmw master tech, so the future is looking like fun

May be dangerous to drive an M40i because one you do…………..

Usual BMW thing, spec varies hugely, especially on the 20’s and 30’s at time of buying a fully spec’d 20 adding almost everything to bring to M40 levels price difference was “only” something like £3k

If you need anything else or anymore questions just let me know 👍

I'm not quite sure why you would worry about the e89 boot, we have done many euro trips in ours, most at least 2 weeks at a time and managed to take all the clothes, shoes, coats and tools needed for the trip and with the roof down. 🤷‍♂️

It’s not just trips, but business stock my wife carries. Some can be cumbersome and the roof would need to stay up, which defeats the object of buying the car 🥺
