Phil, please let Jean and the family know that Pauline & I will be attending Johns funeral. Met him a few times so we'll be able to say a final 'goodbye' to him.

On a different note, not too sure about us coming over in the Zed. It will depend on the weather and whether we can get it out of our lane. We'll definitely be there though, if we can't use the Zed we have a 4x4.

Obviously you can amend the amount as you see fit.
I'll wait a few days before contacting the family with numbers from here. There are a number of Z people turning up from another group JR used to meet up with and indications are, that subject to the weather, they will be getting their Zs out. Me included.

Agree. Their were too many to all fit in the Crematorium some had to stand between the 2 buildings. He was a very well liked fella and that showed by the turn out

Nice touch from all those from the Zed community that were able to attend. Looked like a good send-off.

I've only just heard about this, not had much reason to go on the forum in recent years.

I'm sad to hear he has passed but glad that when he was with us I could call him a friend. He really was a top bloke.

RIP JR.

JR would have loved that picture, a line up of Zeds with a Merc in the middle. I'm sure he would put a funny comment on here about that. I cannot think of anything funny to say about it because its a picture taken at JR's funeral. God bless him I hope they have Zeds in Heaven.

It was a great service, celebrating Johns life. Very well attended we couldn't all get in the crematorium. Just showed what a popular person he was. RIP John.

I'm sorry to say I never met John, but going on all the comments on here I wish I had, a very nice guy I'm sure. The show of cars of friends who came to pay their respects is testament to how he was regarded. I hope I get a fraction of that when I turn my toes up. God bless you John, maybe we will meet someday.

Tony.

Hello All. I'm not a Z owner but was priveledged to know one of the best, and his wife, for the last fifteen or so years.
I've just thought to look again at the club site John was always so enthusiastic about and some of his motoring friends' posts have reduced me to tears again at the loss of a true friend.

My wife Sue, and I first met John and Jean at one of the long defunct BMW Drivers Club events held in France. He either used the Z3 or 325d at the time and both were a credit to him, he loved to talk about them. I had an E30 320 firstly, then an E36 325. We got on well right from the start and afterwards used to meet up at least once every year for a jaunt to France or Belgium for a long weekend together, enjoying hotels and drives' out sightseeing the countryside. He loved it.

After moving to Florida in 2008, we still kept in touch and would all meet up every year when we visited the UK, often meeting up for the weekend at The George in Stamford. He and Jean would make sure they would be there everytime.

My wife Sue and I are so pleased that when we came over to England last September to renew our visas, John and Jean made the journey by train down to London to spend the night and have dinner with us in our hotel. What true friends.
John told us he had the all clear from bladder cancer.

Apologies for the long post but I just wanted to share some memories of a great mate with some of his other mates.

RIP JR.

Steve
