They don't look like they would be too hard to make out of some stainless strapping

I tried to buy new but bmw said there were none available in uk and in Germany and the supplier had no lead time
Really need them I’m running out of options
I ordered both straps today at BMW one is available now the other is due in Germany with BMW Feb1st so they advised me I will have both by the 8th:thumbsup:

Well you got told a porky as evidenced by feedback from others :(

If you're new to BMWs you'll find there are good and bad dealers. And within even generally good dealerships, good & bad people and departments.

I use Trainers of Swansea, Sopers of Lincoln and Dick Lovett of Swindon. They are generally good on spares, especially Trainer. And are happy to answer questions without looking down their nose at you, though at Dick Lovett it can depend on who's on the desk so I tend to email the same helpful guy.

However from experience I wouldn't let Trainers loose to work on my 3GT (I did once - big mistake) but I might buy a car from them. Dick Lovett I wouldn't buy a car from but they're currently getting the business on servicing my 3GT.

As you read elsewhere, I already have the short strap delivered, with the 2nd longer strap due early Feb.

The original product wasn't really up to being subjected to salt and water over such a long time, with a sponge glued to it to keep the water there. They rot quite quickly, as does all the parts under the car. To replace easily you need to remove the rear beam, I was lucky to get help from Lee and co on this task.

Good luck!

I’ve already got the rear beam off and being refurbed can’t put it back in without the straps
Looks like I will end up going to bmw beginning of feb
Would rather wait and get new ones tbh
Thanks bud

To be fair most of the rust you see on the underside of a Z3 is likely to be surface rust. On things like the front subframe, chassis brace and sway bar for example.

The things that do end up rotting are nearly always the spare wheel carrier & fuel tank straps. Frequently the brake dust shields. And if you're unlucky the flange round the centre of the axle carrier and the trailing arms.

The floorpan is pretty bullet proof unless the underseal has failed and water gets in. The inner sills, especially at the ends and jacking points can vary enormously from car to car. Most have surface rust unless previously treated, some might be rotted so badly they put the car beyond economical repair.

I was just going to post that and claim my finders fee.

I can vouch for the seller @Z3I is a top bloke but he may forgotten his glasses when inspecting this part...
Ha ha! I'm only joking about selling them! Anyone can have them for free for templates!

I’m amazed you still have them and they haven’t crumbled to dust already!
