FUEL PUMP going.... going.....

not gone yet but i think it is on the way out, i notice now and again that it takes a few more turns of the crank before the car fires up, fuel filter is changed and its still the same. when i fill up it usually happens as id say the pressure is down so the pump has to work harder.....
what are the options? dont want to spend big bucks to be honest, something cheep and cheerful will suffice
has anyone done this? thank you

After market pumps should be available Dave , even if you have to remove the pump assembly and fit the pump itself. Not too expensive over here, but as you commented earlier maybe because of the Euro/Pound not so cheap. If you can remove it and see an original Bosch part number you may be able to source one locally.

thanks Tony, yes, was looking on ebay but didnt find one for the M44 that wasnt silly money, was thinking of second hand either but new would be best option if i can get one for the right moneys :-/

David - may be worth keeping an eye on EuroCarParts site as Easter approaches - they usually run big discount promotions on Bank Holiday weekends.

I replaced my fuel pump to get the car going. Fiddly job but not difficult. I had to syphon out petrol as the circular panel in the tank holding the pump / fuel sender will let fuel spill out when removed if there's more than a smidgeon of fuel left in..... You can feed a plastic tube through the filler cap neck into the tank and suck ... carefully.....
I found a replacement pump on ebay sold privately but unused. It worked perfectly. The pressure output of the pump is higher than the Z3 standard, but the fuel pressure regulator handles this ok.

I noticed an increasingly loud buzzing from behind the seat a while ago, and decided that the potential for a high speed engine cut-out on a motorway was too great a risk. Phil at CPC in Amersham changed it for me for an exchange of dosh...
