Fuel hose

Hi , My 2.0 z3 failed its MOT today due to a perished fuel hose. It runs from above the fuel tank down to a metal fuel line. Is it possible to replace the rubber hose without dropping the fuel tank and how do you get access to the top of the tank? Is it just regular fuel hose or is it pre shaped.

Thanks for any advise given.

Jack

Looking at the parts diagram these pipes have hose clamps fitted to them, I suspect they are crimped clamps so may be difficult to remove them. Rubber hose should be easy to obtain from a motor factors once you know the size and jubilee type clips used to secure them to the tank. If the MOT tester could see it then one would suppose you might have access from under the car, not sure how good access will be to do up the replacement jubilee clips. Maybe one of the guys on here who breaks Z's will have a better idea regarding access.

Do you need to cut the carpet flap behind the drivers seat to get to the pump access panel, as the flap in my carpet does not open.

Thanks for posting the picture, its going to be a rubber pipe running up to one of the three pipes on the right of the tank. So no need to go in at the fuel pump hatch. I need to get back under it tomorrow.

Not sure how the rubber pipes are connected to the pump top take some pictures when you get in there. Would be useful to see whats involved for future reference, age our cars are now no doubt some of us will be having the same problem.
The crimped end will be the problem you might have to cut them off so you can replace with some suitable sized fuel hose and fuel pipe clips. You should be able to get some hose and clips from a motor factors.

Good write up and pictures on Pelican Parts site detailing pump replacement shows the hose connections are held on by jubilee type clips, they have a plastic cover on the screw looks like a star drive head so you may need to get a suitable tool to undo the clips. Looks like you will have to go in through te hatch after cutting the carpet.

Looks like I will need to drop the tank to replace the fuel line, a job I don't want to do right now.

Has anyone cut the rubber hose clamps off the plastic pipe and then attached rubber hose with normal hose clamps. The plastic doesn't feel rigid enough to do this?

You can fit normal rubber fuel over those plastic plastic, just take care not to twist the plastic pipe as you push the rubber hose on. If you do twist it, it will restrict fuel flow. If it's the return pipe it may not even need a clip on it as there's very little pressure.
