Another one of those apparently vague areas, when to replace the fuel filter? My car is 15 years old with 60 k on the clock. I don't know if the filter has ever been changed, but as they are not very expensive is it a good idea to replace it ?

Lee changed mine a good few months ago I believe the one that came off was circa 2007
So looks like it's been now changed twice in 20 years mines done 78 k.
For the price of a filter probably worth changing if you have no records of it being changed.

Even though mine has a FSH I think fuel filters often get overlooked.

I would change it Ken. I changed Faheem's for him earlier this year and by the weight of it, it had clearly done it's job!

Renewed mine in March this year Ken although the engine was running fine.
I had no record of it being changed,so thought it prudent to do it any way.
Easy to do,even for a div like me ;).

The fuel that came out the inlet side was quite discoloured,so worth doing I'd say.

Cut removed one open out of curiosity - see pic

When I changed mine I disconnected the positive on the battery just to be safe.
Removed the aluminium cover to expose the filter, loosened the securing bracket, disconnected the hoses and very little fuel escaped but do have a container to hand and don't have a fag on the go.
The new filter has a directional arrow so you can't go wrong, hook up the new one, reconnect the battery, run the engine and check for leaks before fitting the cover.

Mine is the old type, one hose in,one hose out.

Steve.

You can easily see which side was up Colin. When I change these I have 2 pairs of needle nose mole grips which I use to gently squeeze the short rubber connectors and that reduces spillage to zero.
