Hi there

My car is a 1998 1.9 16V (manual) so best if owners with the same engined cars can comment here, thanks.

Being new to these cars I was hoping some owners here could give me an idea of what mileage they get to a tank. I'm a few weeks into ownership (and I'm dailying it with a 20 mile commute) and I'm filling up when the light comes on and I've hit the 300 mile mark at this point. I have the roof down a lot so that won't help with MPG and I'm not always light-footed but was curious what are good and bad figures. I only really take notice of how many miles i get to a tank so I can't really help with proper MPG figures I'm afraid.

And lastly, when then fuel light comes on I can fill up with about 41 litres of fuel, and I think the reported tank size is around 51 litres - so doesn't that make the low fuel light meaning approx. 2 gallons of fuel left? Seems a lot.

Any and all input will br gratefully received.

Thanks,
Rich

Hi Rich

Petrol Light comes on when there is 40 miles of petrol left in the car. Do you have a trip computer in the car? Little square box on the console. It has s/r and clock button. If so, a pushing in of the left indicator stalk will shuffle through time, mpg, temperature and avg MPH.

I would expect around 35mpg on the motorway, however driving at 60-65 and being consistent and steady with the accelerator pedal might net you 40+mpg. These cars don't have great Urban MPG and tend to guzzle in the town.

Thanks Stevie and no, it doesn't have the trip computer, just the clock (which has a bad display so needs replacing).

40 miles left from the petrol light is good to know so I reckon that'll give me around 350 miles on a tank which I think is all good.
