    Hi all,

I've been thoroughly enjoying driving my Z over the past few weeks and at last fill up I thought I'd check to see what sort of fuel consumption figure I was achieving. As it doesn't have an onboard computer I thought I'd do a empty / fill / empty type test.

Anyway - the result of driving primarily around town during rush hour traffic (morning and evening) with a few short motorway stints thrown in was 44 litres to 250 miles which according to an online MPG calculator comes out at a shade over 25mpg. My driving style tends to be more that of a sedentary type, rather than with my foot firmly planted either on the accelerator or brake pedal.

How does this compare? Is it about right, a bit off or better than would be expected..?

    I'd welcome your thoughts.

    Thanks.

That's what I get from my 2.0 Auto on mixed mileage, much the same as my VW Touareg 2.5D.

Town rush hour driving is always going to eat into your average. You really need to check it on a long varied run for a more accurate performance indication.
On this year's road trip to South of France of ~2500 miles I averaged 33mpg in my 1.9 auto. The range however was from 38mpg on A road gentle driving down to 24mpg when tootling around down there and sitting in numerous traffic jams.
There is also a case for using 98 octane as the extra cost is paid back with increased mpg. There will be a lot of different opinions - watch this space ;)

Mine is roughly that or worse ;), you should really only use high octane with the M44, other wise you will get pinking, which can lead to overheating of the valves and head.

I use 98 now I think @zedonist converted me in a previous thread. Shell V power has given me the best returns - the 38mpg I quoted previously was on that.

    +1 for Shell Vpower

Brilliant - not sure about the maths though you are doing almost 38mpg on those figures (unless mine are suffering from red wine overload) =))

My 2.8 was averaging 35mpg when I first bought it. I have managed to get the mpg up to 39.9 through careful, smooth driving (between 50 and 60 mph driving on A roads, but no further! Currently averaging 38.7 mpg. All stats quoted are the readings on the on-board computer with tyre air pressures reading 36 psi.

    David.

On our recent trip to France, we covered just over 1900 miles and averaged 39.8 miles to the gallon in a 2 litre Z4. Most of that was motorway driving down country at 80 mph plus. Filled up with Shell V Power with 98 Ron on one occasion.

As we know Jim, alcohol has a great effect on our perception of performance ;)
