Just completed a 2 day tour of Shropshire & Wales, Horseshoe pass, Bala, Lake Vyrnwy, Devils Bridge, Elan Valley, Tintern great couple of days very varied driving in my new Z4 (well new to me), some serious bits of welly handed out, can't believe how that thing just gets up and goes or the way it grips when some of the corners just never seemed to end.

Out of interest, I brimmed it before I left home near Portsmouth, reset mileage, brimmed it when I got back I'd done 827.1 very varied miles.

I worked out that I'd done 34mpg, can that be right or have I missed a fill up along the way, I really don't think so, but if that is real its not at all bad, according to the onboard computer I averaged 31.7, thats why I'm questionning it, be interested if you guys think this is real, or have I screed up along the way ?

Wow !! Thats about the same as I was getting out of my MX5 much lighter and much smaller engine, I'm impressed.

I'm consistently getting 32mpg from my manual 2.8 and 30mpg from my auto 2.8 and the Z4 is better economically so your numbers are good

They are good figures.

I did the NC500 last year in a 3.0cc Z3

I got 34mpg overall travelling from Cambridgeshire.

But I'd say 90% of that was gentle cruising, and just the odd squirt of power.

Yeah I did the NC500 (well my version of it) in the MX5 in May and got 35MPG, considering that the MX5 only has an 1800VVT engine and weighs a lot less I'm stunned by the consumption of this thing, thanks for the confirmation.

Bloody hell, wish I got that out of my 2.8, over 2500 miles I have averaged 27 mpg

That's thirsty. I obtained 42.2 mpg over 750 miles to and from and including the lakes run earlier this year (and with a broken exhaust centre box from midway). Admittedly a M44, but no problem keeping up with the bigger engined cars.:)

...52mpg in a Z4???...
...I obviously need to try harder...
I'm winding you up, although the photo of the dash is genuine, the actual MPG figure for that trip calculated by the same way as you did Chaz was 37.61. Still a very respectable figure for a 2,600 mile road trip, with a bit of spirited driving. Just shows how inaccurate the onboard figure was.;)
