Hello, can somebody help - my front number plate keeps coming off! It is held on with sticky pads and the left hand side is always coming off. I realise the bevelled nature of the Z3 front plate makes it more difficult to stick the plate on. How easy is it to have holes drilled into a new plate or any suggestions for better ‘adhesive’? I’ve tried Gorilla products etc and nothing seems to stick..hoping someone has had the same problem. :-)
Thanks! Anne

I have a surround drilled into the bumper then the plate sits inside that. When you apply pads/glue etc are you cleaning the bumper off properly with white spirit or similar to remove any grime/polish etc?

I always have problems with the sticky pads. So when I fitted the new plates after the accident, I drilled mine and used self tappers and blue, yellow and white coloured caps. Although it doesn’t look as good, the cost is a lot less than losing a plate.

I put a pair of aluminium plates on mine. You can put a set in the front one to follow the contour of the bumper so it will hold fine with d/sided tape

Does the sticky tape come off the plate or the bumper? Must be something on whichever bit the sticky isn't sticking to, mine have been on with double-sided tape for over six years now and no problems. It lives outdoors in North Wales, not one of these garage queens, so it's got plenty of opportunities to fall off, just doesn't. If you're using sticky pads, make sure you're using plenty, I use tape on mine, must be a couple of foot of it on there.

Best thing you can do is put a bend in the number plate to match the bumper before fitting it. You can warm the plate "carefully" with a hot air gun.

Gorrialla tape, wont come off again

having read this thread I have ordered a set of pressed metal plates, mine are a bit rubbish and I am not keen on the car dealership advert on them. They should stick on with the suppled sticky pads hopefully. So that's £34.99 this thread has cost me =))

One solution...

Looks plateless when you approach the car from the drivers side!

As my mate Punch keeps saying "That's the way to do it"

I've always just drilled the number plates and used self tapping screws. You can buy the screws complete with the plastic caps.I put an extra black one in to denote the matching engine size on my Z3 and the Z4 I have now.

I did mine with sticky velcro after removing the holder and bending the plate with a heat gun

I'm sure I saw them plates on a car with a red roof and black wheels the other day?

My new plates arrived today
