Afternoon, just joined the group having recently purchased a Silver 1999 2.8litre Z3, bit of an impulse buy but heh hoh your only 50 once. The car is a bit rough around the edges with work to do but seems ok driving on the short runs I have done so far. The softop is not in the best of conditions but I gave it the full Autoglym treatment yesterday so looks ok for now, although I am looking at a Customs Cover to take away any doubt regarding leaks. Which I am sad to say having treated the roof yesterday I do seem to have the odd leak. Already been searching the forums for help. Just wondered if anyone has any of these issues, upon startup for the first few minutes the engine revs fluctuate quite a bit with the car almost cutting out at times ? I also appear to have quite a "heavy" accelerator pedal that take a bit of pushing just wondered can this be changed at all ?

Well that's my introduction, my name is Darren and I live in the Newcastle area look forward to the countless hours I will no doubt spend on this forum.

Hi, welcome from Mansfield

Roof - I used a bloke called Jack Smith in Swansea. New roof and sewn in rear screen for about £350 fitted. I prefer the sewn in rear screen as it’s less likely to detach. Also, at this price if it needs replacing in the future I’ll just get roof fitted for this price. He can do roofs in a variety of colours.

Fluctuating revs - check for a split air intake hose. Also have the error codes read.

Heavy pedal - might be a related issue to the fluctuating revs.

Hello Darren welcome to the forum. Best bit of advice I can offer is to invest in a good code reader/scanner

Not sure if a 99 car will have a throttle cable or fly by wire accelerator.
If it has a cable then that could be the cause of the "heavy" throttle Darren.

Tony.

ps. Welcome from near Lincoln by the way.

Yeah the throttle cable has been mentioned on a few of my searches, might see if I can try and oil it up to free it failing that a new cable, thanks for the reply.

Tried oiling mine as the cable looked fine but made no difference it's as if the cable runs through a plastic tube and the plastic wears through on the bends. New cable not very dear.

That's what happens. The outer cable liner is plastic and the inner wire cable cuts a groove in the plastic. You can never get rid of that except by fitting a new cable.

Tony.
