Following a request from @Dino D i thought i'd show you some of the cars we used to play with when we were in the VW scene circa 2006-2010
one of my oldest friends was getting into Mk2 golfs andf introduced me to who is now my best mate and was my best man at my wedding one cold wintery night in a carpark
we then went on to spend stupid amount of money on cars and spend every waking hour either, modifying them, cleaning them, showing them off or sitting at my mums drinking tea deciding on what we were going to do next.
'The Blue Thing'
Mk2 GTI G60 (LHD) Supercharged 1.8 8v (later became a NA 2.9 VR6)
Finished in Brilliant Blue
This thing was insane, doing 150mph down bruntingthorpe runway
'The Black Thing'
Mk2 GTI 8V that went on to be a 3.2 V6 and then a 3.6 V6
Metallic Pearl Black
Stunning low mileage, completely original mk2 golf
then the 8v engine was removed and a 3.2 V6 from an R32 transplanted in with a full race exhaust and vr6 gearbox
after this a 3.6 engine was installed and the car was sold after we came back from travelling.
My 1986 Mk1 Golf Gti Cabriolet Quartet Edition (Maggie)
1.8 8v engine (then a 2.0 16v)
Helios Blue Pearl Metallic
A car my parents had owned twice before and i begged them to sell it to me to replace my first car
first purchase and photos with its BBS RMs
first show with some teddy wheels (BBS being refurbed)
after a few years and loads of small mods the gearbox blew up on the M3 at 4am so i did the sensible thing ...
ripped it out and replaced it with a 2ltr 16v from a mk3 gti with a 4 branch manifold and 16v gearbox
this is how it finally looked for a year or so, then i went travelling and came back with no money. so i broke the car for spares as at the time it was worth loads more in bits (this was the biggest mistake i have ever made as about 6 months later i would have had the money to buy it back as a whole car if i'd sold it)
i still miss this car every single day. it was quite literally the worst and best car all rolled into one.
i think the biggest thing about these cars is the friends we made and the time we poured into them. those days are gone and i miss them terribly.
but onwards and upwards.
