This is my how to guide to how I fitted footwell lighting to my z3. There will be other ways to do it this is the way I did it
PLEASE NOTE To do this requires cutting of trim and joining wires if you are not confident then do not attempt this
This part 1 will be lamp fit part 2 wiring.
Parts list

  1. Light units 3b0947415b (2 of )
  2. Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161796387343
  3. Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271750797930
  4. Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281573669845
  5. Wire and electrical connectors / insulation tape
Tools required aren't too much
Flathead and star screwdriver
Pliers and snips and Stanley knife.
( the festoon style bulbs will do interior and boot lamp leaving a spare of each the cob led will do footwell lighting number plate and front sidelights depending on how many you want to change )
Right here goes the only reason I chose these particular lights Is because I already had them . If you put the part number for the lights into ebay another alternative is to buy the light with led bulbs built in as they also come part wired.
If you are going to get lamps and fit bulbs to them scrappy probably the best way as then you can take the multi plug and a length of wire . These lights widely fitted to vw passat audi a4 /a6 Abd a8 also seat and skoda models this is what you are looking for both parts of light and multi plug and length of wire

once you have everything then you can get started
Starting at the drivers side (cheaper panel if it goes wrong )
First remove the 2 clips on the panel at the pedals then unhook and remove

Next remove covers then remove the six screws highlighted

then carefully unhook over side panel and lower before you can remove the panel obd plug needs removed to do this slide lock clip sideways then push plug out of panel this will allow removal of the panel

Next thing did was placed the light face down on the outside of the panel where I wanted in then I drew round with biro so I could see the outline after looking at the light I decided it mounted not much smaller than overall diameter

I decided to err on the side of safety and marked another rectangle inside the 1st a bit smaller than I thought it would be. Then I cut out the rectangle I found the plastic quite thick once I had scored the shape in a bit heated the blade a bit with a lighter to help cut through.

you should now have the original outline with hole cut inside now all I did was tried the light in and then i trimmed the plastic as u needed till the lamp was a snug fit

Next pretty much same thing for the passenger side 2 clips unhook lower panel 6 screws remove glovebox

so by now you should have 2 panels with light units able to be fitted and removed
Part 2 will cover wiring side of the job.

That's a good OEM finish I like that. What part of the loom did you join to power? When I did @BMBabe I connected to the main loom from the back of the module that powers the interior lights. If you want that info send me a PM I half wrote a guide :)

I have a pair of BMW courtesy lights with wiring for sale that would be perfect for this modification / upgrade
