Well I purchased a Bosch battery from Euro parts last Nov for the Z4 3.0L roadster and it went flat after 9days without use. Had 5.7volts left in it. Decided to renew my 25yr old 4amp charger for a all singer /dancing intelligent charger from Halfords. It wouldn't charge!!!!! so thinking I had a bad batt went on Internet for advice. I was informed its likely that the new charger thinks the batt is bad but if the batt is connected to another vehicle via jump leads for just a couple of minutes there's a chance the int/charger will recognise it's still ok. Well thank you internet cos the batt charged to 14.5vols and has been on ever since but this time with a batt isolation switch so I can leave it in garage for long periods without it going flat. This has saved me going to Euro parts and trying to get a refund. Yes I'm aware there's probably something draining the batt if left for more than a couple of days but this has got me back on the road untill I can find the drain fault and has allows me to inform others, now who's the intelligent one?????????.
(The driver on the internet obviously) No substitute for the human brain in my view. :scorecard:

Should've disconnected it my mate, but I'm not one to speak. If batt would've been a bit older I just might have gone to Halfords to buy new one. I've certainly leant something about my new charger which is not mentioned in its instructions. Not sure if we could actually say it's a fault but it's obviously as dumb as me in this case. Don't throw you batt away if your charger won't charge it, give it a go with the jump leads first, you never know!!!.
My batt went flat cos I was too busy the last 9weeks revamping the kitchen which put me 3weeks behind with the garden Tony. Now that I've caught up Ill have more time for the Z. :tumbleweed:
When you back.?

You can get an "intelligent" trickle charger that maintains your battery when not in use - perfect for garages with power.
I also have a solar panel that can connect to lighter socket or clip to battery, to help maintain battery if parked on driveway.

Forgot to tell you I had to get builders in to take out the wall between the kitchen and dining room. First time builders in this house since we moved in 1981, all the other work has been done by yours truly. Invited him back to see the finish (except for the new floor) he actually praised me for some of the ideas, I was lost for words when I realised the boss heard him stood behind me.( she obviously stayed silent about who's ideas was who's, at least untill he'd gone anyway. =)) =))

Mid June Roy.
Neighbour keeping guard says we will need a bloody goat to get the grass back under control its that long.
That I can cope with as long as the drive hasn't turned green.

No power in council garage and did have trickle charger operating from solar panel on roof which lasted about ten years untill some local youngsters decided to see who could hit it with a stone first, changed it and this one lasted about ten months. Wish I'd fitted batt/ISO switch earlier, bit of a pain getting to batt every time under carpet in boot but better than sitting at home worrying about who's around the garages.

Unfortunately so called smart or trickle chargers are only good for maintaining battery voltage. They can't handle deeply discharged batteries, you need a good old fashioned 10amp battery charger to restore the voltage and then swap to the trickle charging.

I got this one not so long ago from that Amazon, brought a couple of proper dead batteries back, good bit of kit in my honest opinion

Yup, mine turned out to be the darn boot light staying on. fortunately an easy to fix by taking the bulb out.... Easily dognosed by either stuffing your smallest child into the boot, or using your phone in movie mode, whatever is easiest.

I have the same problem!! Council garage - just about to fit my solar panel on the flat roof too... I just need to extend the cable, I already have the plug fitted to the battery.
