Hello chaps,

Had the lining out of the boot on the Z3 today. I'm in search of the lead for the CD changer. My car (face lift 3l 2001) did not come with an OEM CD changer and I now have one to put in. Did the cars come pre wired for the CD changer or do you need to run a cable? Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Andy.

See photo below for pre-face lift - you should find something similar tucked in that back corner.88CB0A9B-2D2F-4F85-B6A2-F870071D48B9.jpeg

If it never had the changer from new then the chances are it won’t be pre wired.

I retro fitted a cd changer into Lynne's zed but it had a sticker on the boot saying that it was pre wired for cd changer.

Tony,
Mine was not installed from new but the pic above was pre wired - don't remember the sticker that Stephen mentions. I thought they were part of standard loom for pre face-lift - may have changed on face lift of course.

Thanks for all of the advice. It's been very helpful.

I've been back to the car and found the round multi pin connector. It was hiding behind the wiring loom in the boot.

I have now checked the CD multi stacker and found a power cable. Shown in the picture. Does the stacker take its power via the multicable? If not,

where doe the black and yellow plug go?

Thanks again everyone.

Andy.

Andy - if you look at photo I posted above they where taped together on my car. You may have to take out bung and look behind - I recall there was not a lot of spare cable and I had to fiddle about to get them to fit.

Thank you Jonco.

I will get back out to the car in the morning. I figure if the round pin multicable is there then the power must be as well.

More shortly.

Andy.

Thanks to everyone who advised on this. It took a while but I finally got the CD changer in and working. Very pleased. :):):):)

That's my CD holder underneath the changer.

Hi,

The round multi pin connector should just plug out from the back of the multi changer. It's just 'plug and play'. Its not hard wired in any way.

The power connector just pushes or pulls apart. Again, its not hard wired.

If you are struggling it may be worth your while posting some photos showing the problem you are having.

Bit late to the party on this one but it would be useful to me if you could confirm if the wires that connect to the white plug (on the cable from the CD changer (yellow/black)) are the ones that one should connecs to the white plug from the wiring loom (but have red and brown wires into it) .
Please see photo to explain my query as I did not want to connect the multiplugs together as I was concerned that there was a definite wiring colour spec change on either side of the plugs (and thus avoiding a potential wiring issue).

From my memory of doing the job, it looks about right to me.
