Hello Boys and Girls,

I have found a photo of a 1999 M roadster, the same as mine, with what looks like a metal holder for the first aid kit and the window blanket? Does anyone know how I would find such a thing, what it is actually called even so I can search for it. Perhaps someone here has one for sale?

Below should be a copy of the photo, the item is shown in the left hand side of the boot, trunk if you're American. Apologies, the whole advert has come through but if you see the boot photo you will see what I am talking about.

Cheers
Dave

Thank You DomiMik, I would never have found that.

Unfortunately, that is a sign of the times. I have seen this often now, the cost of postage being 3 times the cost of the part. If it cost 18 euro to post to the UK imagine what they want to ship to Australia!

Is this part actually for an M version, has anyone else got one in their car? It is the first time I have seen one and I thought mine must have been lost over time.

Cheers
Dave

I can understand someone wanting to have such a kit to make the car “complete” but, like the one in my 2003 car, it is all original contents so would anybody be really happy about using these items to treat injuries? I don’t think I would, so unless you are going to restock it with current and up to date stock, is it really worth it?

Hi Tony,

I have the original first aid kit, to be honest I haven't even opened it to look inside. I would imagine everything would be well pout of date. Inwas more interested in the actual holder. My first aid kit is just jammed in on top of the tyre repair kit.

In the E84 Z4 it fits under the passenger seat (in a RHD) and if you lower the seat to fullest extent it then jams on the carpet if you move the seat back or forwards. Bit of a pain really. So the Z3 has it stowed in the boot then? My old Z3 didn't have the kit Dave.
I was just talking Frankie through removing the left front ABS sensor on his ///M on his drive in New Jersey, I will ask him about his First Aid kit went he gets back to me.

Dave, i completely overlooked that you're from Australia. Although shipping from germany isn't particularly expensive (standard package without tracking costs 9 euros), I understand that it's not an option in comparison to the costs of the part.
No possibility to order the part at your local BMW dealer?

Although i feel obliged to add that the use of that holder is somewhat justified here in germany, the durability of the first aid kit is checked during the MOT so the holder will be in use at least once in two years Tony 😄

Regards
Dominik

I had no idea that an MOT included a first aid kit.

Here in Australia there are only a couple of states that require yearly RWC (Road Worthy Certificates, our equivalent? to a MOT) The only time a vehicle needs a RWC is when it changes hands.

I didn't know you were required to carry a First Aid kit in Germany, but it does not surprise me either. Does that apply to all of Europe because I was under the impression that the "MOT" tests carried out across the whole of the EU had been driven by EU Directives to be "standardized" so we were all under the same rules?
I did know that travelling into France (at least) you were required to carry spare bulbs and First Aid kit, but you were not obliged to carry one once driving within the UK. Does the German MOT test also check the First Aid kit is up to date and safe to use? So you only have to have your car tested every 2 years Dominic?, is that from 2, or 3, years from new?

Dave, a guy I used to work with emigrated to NZ a few years ago and he had a job at a Toyota dealer ship carrying out WOF tests (Warrant of Fitness) although he wasn't an MOT Tester here in the UK.

I don't know whether the MOT is standardised in all of europe, but unlike in other countries german road traffic regulations demand a first aid kid to be carried in each car. If it's not up to date any more, there will be a comment on the MOT report and it will be re-checked next time, nothings else.
Yes, first MOT is three years from new, after that it's every two years, that's fixed.
If I got it right the time of validity of the British MOT can vary?

Here in the UK the 1st MOT is at 3 years old and then every year after. If the car(vehicle) is used as a Taxi it is every year from new.
