We’ve moved the Topaz Blue 2.2 wiring loom project to the back burner. The loom is all long since done. But it’s getting a full rear end rebuild. Everything blasted/coated or replaced and it’s slow going.
So we decided it was time for Maycee to step forward.
Not too much wrong with her to get her on the road. Then she will get a rolling refresh programme.
The clutch release bearing has gone. So the gearbox is going to have to come out. And the exhaust system dropped. And to do that the dreaded manifold to system bolts will need to be heated up, driven out and replaced
Also, a very bizarre area of rot in an otherwise rock solid car. It’s this area. The water run-off shoulder that sits on the top of the upper spring plate.
Here’s what it normally looks like.
And here’s what it looks like on Maycee with the remains of the old one cleaned up ready for welding.
The other side is rock solid. And so is the rest of the car, including the upper spring plate and chassis side that the shoulder sits on here.
So she’s in the garage today.
They will be plug welding the new shoulder on. And sorting out the exhaust bolts.
The welder is also the MOT tester and ironically said the rotted shoulder wouldn’t have been a fail anyway as it’s not structural (just a water run-off). But we like to do things properly anyhow.
The small replacement panel had to be hand made by a superb guy I found in Bridgend. BMW don’t sell the part separately.
The garage are also doing a dummy MOT test so I have the opportunity to correct advisories and not have them sat on the history.
