after changing out my front speakers and tweeters for a nice set on Pionner components the sound was better with my replacement Alpine HU. But it was always lacking the depth you get with a nice sub.
Not wanting to build my own I found a Kenwood under seat sub small enough to sit behind the passenger seat and allow the seat to be pretty much fully back. You cannot even tell it’s there visually but the sound is great for such a small unit.
now I am happy! I also have a small amp behind the HU so it’s good and loud too.
