You were quite close, this is a copy and paste from 'the other site' from a thread called "Usernames. Explain yourself!" by rgf......

Mine has nothing to do with the roof on my car.
In my late 20's I started to go bald on the top of my head, just like my dad, so my good old mates started calling me hardtop, shortened to HT.
Bunch of barstewards, but you've got to love em though.
