So back in July I booked an appointment with Jack Smith Swansea for a new roof for my 2.8 Z3 purchased earlier this year. The earliest appointment offered was in December - that day was today! Having spent a good few weeks drying out the foam under the carpets of the Z, I was reluctant to drive a long distance in the rain in case the roof leaked again. I very nearly cancelled the appointment because of storm Barra, but by studying the uk rain maps from the met office website I could see a window of opportunity to drive down from Leeds yesterday evening. In total I encountered about 10 minutes of heavy rain on the 5 hour journey but luckily none of it seemed to make its way into the car.
The roof was fitted this morning, it took about 3 hours. I did some Christmas shopping while the chap worked his magic. Lovely sunny day leaving Swansea.
On the way home, disaster struck! Near Cardiff, the revs needle had a fit and sank to zero. This was accompanied by a loss of power in any gear.
I managed to limp the car to a BMW specialist garage in Cardiff who have diagnosed (I think) a faulty cam shaft sensor.
So the new part is ordered and I am currently sitting on a delayed train heading back to Leeds via Manchester. I will be returning to Cardiff next week to collect the car.
It’s been quite a day!
