Had a new back box fitted by a local garage which looks garbage. Refused to pay for it which they agreed to do. What makes/models are suggested for a 97 1.9. Thanks

Not a great deal of options available for the m44 and less for the m43. Something like a Powerflow custom stainless might be your best bet.

I had quotes for Cat back Stainless Steel from Powerflow and an Indy. Went with Indy in the end due to reviews and he was also cheaper. I would do an online search and in car forums for a specialist Indy near you

What was wrong with it? I got one a few years ago fitted by ATS. Just a little tailpipe looked naff. Must be some NoName brand used by ats and places like that.

Any way, last year it started spewing out a kind of long strip of material. Like a magician pulling an endless ribbon out of his pocket. :)

Thinking that ain't been welded correctly there Paul.
The m44 exit pipe is smaller than the m43.
This is because the m44 has a single round pipe with a oval tip
Whereas the m43 has twin pipes merged into an oval

M44 with 2 section Cobra cat back below. They supplied wrong rubber hangers to start with and it looked like Paulies'pic above.

@Stevo7682 the one that was removed was a bit bigger than your first pic. When we came back from last September's run I noticed the outer skin was loose. Put it back on for the winter garaging with heat resistant silicone and arranged for the local garage to do it with the MOT. In the sticks you have to use what facilities are around you but to be fair to them they have no issues about it being taken off. Have an indy booked in East kilbride for a SS one with twin pipes. The original one taken off was done in 2009, so it didn't do badly.
