Hi folks 👋

Just noticed this piece of metal hanging a bit low the other day. Had a good look and have no idea if it some sort of heatshield or bash guard???

It is attached at one end to the back box via a pigs nose rubber part. Strangely it just pivets and is not attached anywhere at the other end, therefore it was hanging down and vibrating against the inside of the rear bumper.
I'm sure some of you will know what it is for and can help tell me if it is necessary or where I should fix it back to 😕
Thanks all 👍

I would suspect that should be connected to the chassis and it the exhaust support bracket.

That will need welding back onto the body of the car as already said its the body mounted bracket that holds up the right side of the rear silencer other hangers will be under excess strain now because that is broken.

In your second picture if you swing the bracket up you can see where the welds have failed at the top of the picture.

Yes you are spot on, I did this after Nodzed and Stevo adviced me it was a support, otherwise I never would have realised it swung all the way back up to the chassis 👍 now I just have to find a garage that can weld it back, hopefully shouldn't cost too much. It is a bit tight for space so not sure if they would remove the bumper or be able to get at it as is once it's lifted 😕

They will have to get a flap wheel up there to clean the joint surface back to bright metal and the bracket as well so they can weld it back on, should be able to get a tool to do that up there. Mig welder gun should also be able to get up there to weld it back on.

I had a similar issue not long after I bought my Z 12 years ago but it was the rear hanger. I drilled through the spot welds and fitted 3 bolts and nuts. It still looks as good as new 12 years and 127,000 miles later.

You know I was kinda thinking about it, as I normally find a MacGyver way around most things, but not something that had been welded previously. So nice to know. Your fix may even have outlasted another weld fix 👍
