I've recently bought a March 2000 1.9 Z3 and it has an MOT advisory for degraded rear silencer. The outer casing is flaking off so I need a new section, cat back really.
This is where I get confused. Up to 1999 rear sections are online at £50 > £150 depending on quality I suppose. These systems seem to use a flange joint.
The one I need has a wider section on pipe by the looks of it and slips over the front section to be clamped in place. The cheapest of these by IMASAF comes in at £260. Why the difference in price? As an alternative I tried two local exhaust centres both who said no problem and then found the exhaust is no longer available from their suppliers.

A stainless fitting centre quoted "around £500 depending on how much work we need to do to make sure it isn't too noisy" !

Any recommendations very welcome.

PS I'm still waiting for a quote from BMW for it but the cost will probably be more than the car cost me.

I, just for the hell of it, looked up the part at Rock Auto, which seems to have everything at great prices. They don't even list the 1.9 L in their parts inventory!! This was a shock to me!!
Not much on e-bay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?

Good luck with it. I'd be interested to know which system if for your car.................Frankie

@Paul Rice, do you have a good exhaust on your 1.9 mate? I'm guessing the Zcars racers don't use a standard exhaust?

Tony.
