The light has come on this evening.

Do i invest in a code reader first ? before putting straight into the garage.

Fancy a nice code reader, advise please.

NB. Car is running perfect as it should.

I would bet that someone near you has a code reader to check your car out for you. I bought an Autec code reader off eBay, if I recall right was about £35.

£ 35 sounds reasonable, would it clear my passenger air bag light also ?

Probably not but you can buy Z3 airbag light re set tools for around £16 from eBay too.

Filled up with BP Super unleaded, drove 10 miles and the light has gone, whats that all about ?

I had that. Light came on when I used higher octane fuel and went out when I went back to 95RON. Maybe the electronics detect a change and get upset.
When I checked the codes with the light on nothing showed up.
