Ever put a head gasket in one yourself?

Why do they not do it themselves? that would make me worry they have spotted something more that just a head gasket is needed....

Problem is you can't find out what is needed until you've bought it and then started stripping the engine down.

If it stays below $1000 then probably worth a punt, second hand engine would only be around $500 worse case (UK parts prices) other wise not a lot of money for a head gasket, just time, I reckon about 6 hours labour on an M44 go the gasket or a couple of days to swap the engine out.
