Hi, wondered if anyone has any suggestions for reliable and sensibly priced European Breakdown cover for perhaps two trips a year...those I have seen are silly money....thanks.....its for a 1998, 2.8 Z3..

Yes, agree, that is steep. Which company? I found that breakdown companies don’t like cars over 16 years or more. I insured mine with the AA for £120 which I thought wasn’t too bad for my last trip.

I think most of the specialist insurers provide European cover as part of the policy.

£273 for two weeks....
Mine was similar for 17 days in Switzerland a few years ago. It depends on what level of cover you get, mine was a belt and braces cover that would transport my car home if undriveable and provide me with a car for the remaining period of time. Insurers just see an old car.

I think most of the specialist insurers provide European cover quite reasonably. This year I am with Lancaster paying paying £330 for 7500 miles with agreed value and UK and European breakdown and recovery.

I’m trying https://www.driverguardian.co.uk/ this year.

But it’s the family car which is ‘only’ 8yrs old, can’t remember what their age limit is.
Think I came across it on another forum, maybe Pistonheads.

The humbug gotcha is the cost to recover to UK vs car value -a lot of policies limit it to the cars value.

Be careful who you source breakdown cover from - many have an age limit on what they will cover.
The only company that I could find that would cover a car as old as the Zed was RAC.
The next thing you need to check is the repatriation policy - most will only cover up to the value of the car - so have a breakdown abroad that can't be sorted locally, you may get told to scrap the car & they will send you a cheque... Only the top packages will repatriate no matter the value of the car & even then you may have to argue with them when that happens as they will try to talk you into scrapping...

Done a few trips abroad so quite familiar with the tactics these companies employ.

I have RAC family cover but it won't cover the Z3 or Z4 as they are deemed too old.
