Hi folks, I've been a member for quite some time (2 years ish), but never posted a thread. I have a 2000 Z3 2.8 in Oxford green.
In September I'm taking the old girl --- and the car to Spain via Portsmouth- Bilbao. I've been pricing breakdown cover for the 17 nights we're there. I wondered if anyone might know of of a cheaper option than the £180 to £220 that the main players want. Most of the others dont seem to want to cover a car of over 15 years old. Thanks.

Funnily enough I'm an expert on this at the moment. I had "Comprehensive plus" with RAC, so the best cover they do. It's worth really looking into what they do and don't cover. I had an incident 3 weeks ago and my car was stuck in Germany, They classed it beyond economical repair but this was based on their opinion, the repairs were less than the value of the car.

Worth calling who ever you choose and throw some scenarios a them and see what they say.

Thanks Lee, I'll remember that advice when I take it out.

I have RAC Euro cover as an add on to a bank account with Barclays Bank. My head gasket blew and wrecked my engine whilst driving through Belgium in June 2017. They sorted a hire car for me and transported my Zed back to my home in Cornwall. My car arrived home 3 weeks after I did but didn't have any hassle at all about the age of the car or it's value.
We pay around £12 a month for the account but it also includes travel insurance and some other bits and bobs too. I'm not sure if you can get the same deal now, but you wont be surprised to hear that I wont be cancelling this account.

Great stuff Jack, I'll get on to that in the morning. We need travel insurance as well, so it might work out well!

got 2 weeks cover for France, Switzerland and Italy for £138 with the AA, that was for a 20 year old Z3M initially , taking the E89 now instead but they didn't offer a reduction for the newer car. I have UK cover too not sure it that makes a difference

Nodzed, I got quoted £184 from the AA for 17 days. Maybe its the extra days that make the difference. Cheers

Hmm mine is actually 15 days so one day extra seems expensive, I did haggle though and told them they could do better, and they did.

I used Green Flag for my 13 year old Z4MC for about £150 for Euro Plus cover (including being in another car).

The trick with RAC and AA is to use a cash back site to get up to £150 back (on the most expensive policies of course)...so a £250 multi-driver UK & Europe policy might be £250 initially, you will ultimately only pay £100 for it.

The renewal will come through at the full price next year, but if they won’t negotiate, simply swap to another one with another cash back.

Thanks for all the reply's. Thanks to Jack Ratt, I shopped around for the different bank accounts. The Barclays one didnt suit my circumstances, so I settled for one through Nationwide. It costs £13 per month (£156 per year), includes European breakdown cover, worldwide family travel insurance and full mobile phone cover. There are some slight clauses in the cover but it suits my needs well. Also if necessary you can cancel the account at any time (I wont be, it sounds too good, but until you need to claim you never know how good an insurance or breakdown cover is.) Cheers everyone!

Just make sure they don't do the cover through Green Flag, they only cover cars up to 16 years old, nearly got caught on that one myself.

No, its through Britania rescue and they say there are no age restrictions as long as the car is well maintained and serviced.
