Just had my renewal through for the Zed and its jumping up quite a lot every year. Rang up AXA who covers
it and its due apparently to the cars age, its 12 year old now (2004) and been told they will cover up to 16 year old, so how do you cover your Z3s if you want to go over seas I wondered?

Ours won't cover the Zed at all if abroad as it's over 10 years old. We take the gamble. When we went on the limborit last year it was a bit worrying but like @hard top said they are not going to see you stranded. Away from that we make sure we have enough pence in our pocket to cover any possible costs

That's just the British insurance company's taking the pish. (Because they can, you live on an island)
Over here it is just another part of our normal cover because you can be across a boarder before you know it.

When driving to the UK I did take out extra insurance with the Dutch version of the AA/RAC, its called 'Get My Ass Home Insurance'.

We can do cars under 17 years old
I think AA and RAC offer eu for old cars
We're with rac breakdown Stace and they cover it in the UK but won't abroad.

I don't take the Zed to France Belgium Germany or Spain or in fact to anywhere abroad as the insurance or sensibly priced breakdown cover won't cover a 20 year old car.
Might be a good thing apart from France ,I don't think I would go further in a 1.9 might be a long haul.
It's a bit of a pain if I did want to take it to France and I can understand other people's frustrations especially if the cars in perfect mechanical condition.
I dare say if ones willing to pay silly money you can have what you want.

Wow Dave you have 5 years left then!;)=))=)) Seriously though what would you do after that if you don't find someone to cover older cars? Do what Dave said and risk it? You know how reliable your car is and you have done the fan, w/pump thing. There isn't much more that commonly goes wrong is there?
Tony.
Yes another 5 years, not sure after that TBH, probably do as Grumps does and risk it. We'll see if anything else goes wrong, as you say water pump was the worst. At the end of the day money cures all problems but could be very expensive getting her back from Europe in the event of a massive problem. Coming home on the train, hiring a flat bed and going and getting it would be one solution...

Our CAA is based on the member not the vehicle no matter how old it is and covers us worldwide. There are different levels of coverage I can choose and even covers me if I am a passenger or using someone else's car, truck or ?? !! JIM

That sounds similar to the AA membership over here Jim, it covers the member what ever car they're in.
