So have a new ABS sensor fitted (right/drivers side front wheel) after the old one got damaged by a extended wheel bolt.

New Bosch part fitted. ABS and ASC lights won’t go out. Their Snap on diagnosis machine give the code 52H/82 which is ‘undocumented’ on their machine.

Some googling brings up very little apart from it being the sensor...

Anyone have any ideas or experience with this?

Dino,

I know you replaced the sensor, but did you make sure that any debris was cleared from the hub area too ? Could be some flaky rust or something like that making the sensor play up.

This might help too.

Code 82 is the yaw rate sensor. Nothing listed as 52H. Maybe @t-tony might have an idea.
My car is not DSC equipped, it’s the previous type so ASC only. It seems they use the same codes or 52 over the various models but it means slightly different things depending on the model.

Pretty certain mine does not have a Yaw sensor (ASC just controls traction and stop wheels spin but does not apply brakes when under/oversteering).

Good idea Re the debris.
The local garage changed the sensor, backing plates and discs. He is a decent chap so hopping he would have cleaned it out but will ask him to take it off again if nothing else works.

Possibly a wire damaged up stream of the sensor appears to be a suggestion or the ABS unit itself. Don’t think it’s likely in this case as the sensor was damaged by the extended wheel bolt at he hub area.

Update on this.

So a new ABS ring was fitted to rule out possible damage. It come complete as a hub kit:

But light STILL on.
Local garage says try BMW to read the code as his snap on just gives the ‘undocumented’ code.

Decide to ring up a garage I know further afield who works on performance fords and beemers etc and says bring it over for read on his old reader.

The older reader gives more specific info saying no signal from that sensor...so he gets hand behind the wheel and checks the plug. It was in and tight but not quite, a proper shove and all is good again!

He did say this early ABS unit was very reliable and didn’t usually suffer the dry joints problem.

Also said it if was a danger ring the light would only come on when moving away, not straight after starting and stood still.

How the info helps anyone else.

Top tip:
Be careful when using extended wheel bolts!!
