Been out today for a run today and noticed the temp gauge wasn’t in its usual mid position but cooler almost to the quarter, as I got into traffic it went back to mid position. Did this for the rest of the day, is this a sign my thermostat is on the way out?

She’s due a coolant change over winter so I think I’ll do belts, water pump and thermostat.

Yes, thermostat is either fully open or sticking open, change sooner rather than later if you can, the car may tend to run a little rich unit changed.

She’s off the road from the end of the month so I’ll add it to winter maintenance program.

Sounds like the thermostat to me. Mine went: stuck open. Heat inside the car was non-existent and hard on fuel. I’d prioritise a new one ASAP.
