I have a M44 1.9L Auto. Earlier this evening when attempting to kickdown (thrice) the car shuddered and did not shift down in order to accelerate. Now it is fine.
Can the kickdown solenoid be acting up (pn#24331422093)? Transmission liquid?
Anyone have any ideas?

If this an intermitant fault I would check and clean all the electrical connections to the solenoids on the gearbox and check the looms whilst your under there. Find the EGS Control unit and check the condition of the multi plug and its socket for clenliness of the contacts. The fact that the car has returned to normal might well indicate a dodgy connection.
Think you may have misquoted the part number for the solenoid OEM shows different

ATF change would be a good idea if you dont know how old the current fluid is, at least you would know you have good fluid and the correct amount.

Cheers for the feedback. Contacts or ATF makes sense. I'll update.
BTW the car drives fine - just the kickdown was a problem (stuttered/shuddered)
(sorry - I had an extra 0 at the end of the pn#)

Just as an after thought check out the kick down switch underneath the throttle pedal for good connections and operation, if its gummed up that might have caused the issuie you have.

Will do (I thought of the kickdown switch - but did not consider that it would engage and disengage in milliseconds)

The switch sends a signal to the control unit so it's very fast acting.

It reacts in about the same time span as the sport button, almost instantaneously.
