I'd check your throttle cable, if your car has one of course.

I would also check your rubber inlet after the Maf for any splits letting in unmetered air.

I have put new rubbe on after mad sensor when first bought the car , but will check again
, I am sure it does have a cable , a couple of people have said that , if cable was faulty wouldn't it be doing it all the time , tim

could it be the speed sensor? i have noticed on mine that if im rolling forward in traffic the idle wont drop to the usual untill the car is at a standstill - rolling rpm around 1000-rpm then at standstill it drops to around 800rpm

Ok thanks , a friend of mine is a very good mechanic , where the speedo is jumping up and down fluctuating all over the place , he is sure that it is speed sensor on the gear box , so have for one to try

this may explain the idle issue, was the sensor ok before the build?

An identical problem was caused by a sticking throttle cable on my brother's 1.9. It had been off the road for 2 years. It soon cleared itself with use.
