(Elephant in the room - Yes, I know it would be quicker, simpler and cheaper to just adopt the facelift car instead of doing the swap, but I am looking to do this for the project and experience, and my family and I have grown quite attached to my pre-facelift car. Also, although I haven't seen it yet, I'm led to believe the facelift chassis would be in need of substantial welding to get it back on the road)

As per the title, an opportunity has come up to get my hands on a 2.8 facelift car, with which I would engine-swap into my 1.9 pre-facelift (plus trans/diff/subframe/body panels etc).

Obviously there are cosmetic differences between the pre- and facelifted cars, but underneath the body panels and interior, are the chassis broadly the same? Are there any show-stoppers that would prevent this project, like mounting points for the engine/trans/diff/rear subframe?

Thanks in advance

I am pretty sure the chassis and mounting points are all the same. Lots of work though changing wiring and items to get the six cylinder and all the security stuff transfered over.

The Z3 is bolt tougher and everything pretty much comes off.
