Secondary air pump on No2.
Correct, but pictures 1 is a 2002 3.0i sport and pictures 2 is a 2000 3.0i standard model.
why would the secondary air pump be fitted to an earlier and less expensive model Z3.
the secondary air pump is there to reduce emissions so should the later model car have one? Or did they not fit them on the sports edition?

It's probably just been removed by a previous owner.
I know they can be deleted, but why? To what purpose? Also looking at the bracket it fixes to, it doesn’t look like there has ever been a secondary air pump fitted.

Only for the US market anyway, and they work in mysterious ways. Why I got rid of mine was because the bearings in the pump failed and made a godawful din. Made absolutely no difference the the emissions test on the MOT. Was just California where they were required. We had a less than 1 year old Mustang on hire in Orlando a couple of years ago and under the bonnet there was a sticker saying "Not to be used in the State of California"

Tony.

😂 like one state in the US is going to make a difference to the rest of the gas drinking country. Bless them. Thanks for the info though I thought I been cheated buy not having the air pump. It’s coz I’m a tight yorkshire fella. 👍

They are needed for emission purposes in the States but not over here. The one on my first zed started to fail making a horrible sound at start up, like Tony says. If you look on the side of the engine you will see if it's been blanked off. As they are not needed over here and sometimes get noisy they tend to get removed.

Mine looks like it’s never had one. also the mount it would fix to is painted and has no marks, like it’s never had anything fixed to it.
