I wanted to replace a cam shaft sensor.

Having accessed the connection see photo, the connection stubbornly refuses to come off.

what techniques do you suggest? The metal clip does move.

Press the metal clip and instead of pulling the connector apart, first push it together, then try to pull it apart.

The above hopefully shows what’s going on when you depress the metal bar. Once it’s depressed, the only things that should stop it coming apart are corrosion of the terminals or dirt in the housing. As indicated by previous responses, push, wiggle, pull, until it comes apart.
Good luck.

Another technique, depending on access, is to use a small screwdriver in the access hole to try to lever the housing from the sensor.

keep the clip depressed and lever against the housing and sensor retaining lug.
