Have been under the bonnet doing the scuttle and while cleaning up I came across these two 'redundant' fittings.
These are both on the drivers side.
They don't mirror the passenger side.
Any ideas what they are/were for.
I haven't done any real investigation yet but I will check for power at the weekend.
Also as they seem to be 'open' should I terminate them properly.

Hi do you have a fan delete or something done to the fan in general?
I think you are looking at a 3 pol plug housing part number 61131378410 that connects to the two speed fan switch.
pretty sure that the other one is also fan related. sorry if wrong, just trying to help.

In my experience anything which is doubled back and taped with that type of tape is from factory. Most likely those connectors have never been used and can be tucked away and forgotten about. If you disconnect a cable label it with masking tape, anything which was not connected label it as NOT connected.

Tony.

Hi Zephyr
Very interesting, I was going to post a pic of the Rad/fan arrangement as I have seen cars with the fan between the front bodywork and the rad, mine ain't got that...
Pic attached.
Is this a fan delete ? I have seen it mentioned on the forum but it's all a mystery to me

You've still got the engine driven fan so no, you don't have a 'fan delete'.

What you've read on the forum about a fan delete is removing the engine driven fan you have and using the electric air con fan instead.

If I am correct (and I do not claim to be) your case is this one:

So you are looking at these parts:

So why would it not be connected ?

Good call on the air con fan connector. I was thinking fog lights, but I think you are correct.

I think the other connector is for a washer pump. Some cars have a washer bottle where your smog pump is.
Yup. Mine's a September 97 build and has the washer bottle where the smog pump is.

That is the connector for the fan temperature switch, which is not visible in the picture I am guessing your car does not have Air Conditioning.

There maybe other wire connections within the engine bay. BMW installed the wiring harness which were all the same, and if you didn’t have an item on your car, the electrical connection was there so if you wanted to add it at a later stage you could.
