right not sure if I will explain this right as I'm a driver not a fixer but.
took my z in for back brakes doing were wearing thin.
the local garage who are very good by the way put the electronic devise on to check every thing was ok.
when it came to the function electric brake it would not find any thing in the little box on his devise.
its for electronic wind back so you can change the brakes.
he mentioned roll back reline.
computer will not find function.
not sure if this meens any thing to you guys just thought I would give it a whirl.
I was told there is a manuall back up at the back of the brake .any ideas.

@Googy far from being a mechanic of any description, does this help? Not sure if I've understood the Q.

There are quite a few cars with handbrake motors on the callipers these days, I assume this the type on your car Alan? Some have an electric motor and switch, which basically does the job of you pulling up or releasing the lever. We have a laptop with soft ware at work which has managed all up to now. Some, including certain VW models combine it with winding the inner part of the calliper back but you then have to push the piston manually as well. Personally I don't know of a manual override, but that's not to say there isn't one. My line manager at work used to work at Sopers in Lincoln so I can pick his brain tomorrow if that would help.

mmmm not sure about this. My Z4 had a handbrake lever much the same as the Z3.

What it did have was a feature that if you were starting off on a hill, when you released the foot brake, there was a delay of about a second before the brakes were released at which point the car rolled back. In reality you never noticed as the clutch was released to go forward.

It would of made the hill start on my driving test much easier.;)
