They're all jumping on the EV bandwagon. I still maintain that the supply of sufficient electricity to charge all these EVs will be the rate limiting step. Only a week or so ago a big chunk of the UK was left without power when a couple of generating stations had issues and had to drop off line. Doesn't inspire one with confidence for the electric future does it?

I said exactly the same to Shirl the night it happened Rob. It does make you wonder, it really does.

I have zero interest in ever getting an EV. If they can't even be bothered to sort the infrastructure out to support them why the hell should we bother.

I hope you all realise, this generation of cars may be some of the last ones made with petrol or Diesel engines. More and more, manufacturers are switching there efforts to designing and manufacturing electric vehicles, I for one will morn the passing of the petrol engine.

You will certainly see the decline of manufacturers producing sports cars as we know them - these increase their total company fuel figures, and so don't help them in terms of environmental issues - as they are encouraged to limit their CO2 emissions across their ranges.

With regards to EV, I'm with Grumps :wideyed: not interested, as a car for me isn't just transport, its a hobby/interest too. If we all had them just for transport, we'd have the very basic cheapest obviously.

With regard to infrastructure, its chicken and egg really - folks wont commit without the infrastructure - why take the chance, and companies wont commit until there's mass uptake of EV's. However with talk of hydrogen fuel on the horizon, many think EV are just a stop gap until this time.
Manufacturers arn't even totally sure where it will go - go back 10-15 years when LPG was all the rage and going to be the new fuel.

Once we all start plugging cars in all the time, revenue from petrol/diesel is 0, just how is the gove. going to fill the revenue void ?? along with the extra leccy generation - and EV cars aren't anywhere near as green and many people think they are ;)

And that will be the way they eventually stop us from driving such cars, by restricting the sale of petrol and of course diesel.

Agree Tony, I reckon they'll restrict petrol and diesel sales by taxing it through the roof, like they are doing with tobacco. In order to replace the huge lost revenue from the mass sale of fuel, they will then start to tax the electricity used for EV charging via differential tarrifs managed through smart meters.

That's the whole point of smart meters - they are of no real benefit to the consumer - as soon as they are widespread, electricity will be charged at different rates depending on the time at which its consumed.

Absolutely. Currently (pun intended) there are all these incentives to move people into EV's. They'll come eventually and for the commute I would accept one today (seriously considered a Model 3) but as for any enthusiasm or interest it would be no more than that I have for whatever phone the company hand me.
