Just part of the human spirit. Necessity is the mother of invention and all that.
    Everything gets homogenised nowadays.

No, no and no again. You can't be a petrol head without a petrol engine; this is the law. Not interested in being an "electric head", would make my remaining hair curl.

Some of the appeal of these classics is the engine - if you are just swopping for an electric motor you may as well just build something from scratch in the same form.
Its the same as when people built the kit form replicas of Ferraris, etc and used a pug as the donor vehicle. It wont ever be a Ferrari, even if it looks like one.

That's the Porsche I saw featured on the news @t-tony, same story. As I said, a 'silent' Porsche ! It's just not right.:(

I guess if petrol became so scarce or expensive that the only way to continue with fun, open top motoring was to drop in an electric motor, I'd convert. You could always add a sound system for the noise, and that could be programmable with different sounds tracks. In the mood for a V12 today?

So, does this mean you are trawling the scrapyards as we speak, looking for an electric milk float you can strip the motor and batteries out of? Some of us were bought up on the smell of petrol, I for one will mourn its demise.

Don't be silly Mike, look at my avatar! Until she sold earlier this year, I was still sniffing 100 octane, with lead!

Electric is like methadone, better than nothing! (apparently)

Relax folks. Petrol has been around for over 100 years, there is plenty of oil left so another 100 years or so will see us all out.:)

Availability of fuel isn't and never has been the issue. It is simply IF we are allowed to use it or priced out of being able to afford to use it where the problems will start, and possibly not before that long too.
I for one would rather run an electric Z roadster that no roadster at all. Are there any production electric or hybrid roadsters out there yet? I don't know simply because I'm not interested.

    Tony.

It got there under it's own acceleration. 0-60 in 1.9 seconds?

fossil fuel power is so yesterday, it will die out not long after all of us,
you can kick and scream all you like,
If you want petrol in 30 years time, it will be shipped to your home in a 5 litre container for £500, there will be plenty more EV conversions going on then.

    people will be watt-heads then

30yrs, that'll mean I'll be nearly 102yrs old Pete so no worries cos they'll have taken my license by then. What ever happened to hydrogen as a fuel. Would still need the Internal Combustion Engine so everyone's happy.
