Well, it was Ebbee's time in the TLC of the Zed shed with @Lee @GazHyde @Oldguysrule all putting some help in ... @Shortie_gal and Toni on Pizza duty and yours truly trying to look as if I was doing something.

The issue..

You may remember the discussion regarding the replacement of the water pump ... some go at 80K some last longer. As the year is looking very busy I decided as I was over 85K that it would be a good idea to replace the water pump, Thermostat and the belts.

One stripping the components the following was noted. The bearing in the water pump seemed a little rough compared to the lovely replacement. The thermostat looked like new, as it could have possibly been replaced at an earlier time. It was not a BMW stamped part. The interesting bit was the belts, as Lee spotted that they had started to crack and breakdown. So the idea to do the preventative maintenance was a good idea in my mind. Total cost just over £100, money well spent I would say.

The photos below are... What I can say is that the drive home with -2.. top down.. was lovely...

The belt starting to break down. The other belt was starting to break in a similar way.

New Belts in place, Water pump and thermostat replaced.

I will add more when the next phase of any works is carried out.

Once again, great work by the Zed Shed (Hampshire) lol..

Just how we like it in the Zed Shed, straight forward and with plenty of pizza :D. Always nice to get to play with a clean Z3, the engine bay was almost clean enought to eat my pizza off!

Had to be said the bearings on the pump were clearly starting to deteriorate, although no excessive play in the bearing. You could feel it grinding though when turned by hand. As for how much life it had left in it is anyones guess, but I reiterate that I think 80,000 miles is a good maximum replacement interval for any 6 pot enginewater pump.

The replacement unit from GSF had a plastic impeller, which goes against everything we've previously learnt. We discussed this with the GSF parts guy, and actually had a really good exchange over it. Suffice it to say the quality of the unit is good, and personally I've never seen a failed plastic impeller. Mine had done 100+K and it was the bearings which caused it's fatal failure.

Well, part 2... Back in The Zed Shed, brake callipers painted and rear brakes overhauled.

Back in the autumn of 2015 I spotted a great add on Gumtree, z3 brake parks unused and boxed £25. Result.. Grabbed rear discs, pads, front pads and handbrake shoes.. So the rears got replaced this evening from my stock with Ferodo Discs and Brembo Pads.. Very happy.

Callipers painted in graphite to give a nice clean looking wheel too. @Lee and @Oldguysrule doing a brilliant job as ever. Thank you.

Photos taken when I arrived home, top down moonlight drive
