This is for a RHD 98 2.8 z3, but i am sure it is similar on other models
This was a two person job for us, having an extra pair of hands made it much easier
1) Remove the intake hose directly after the airbox and disa valve (this gave me easy access to the throttle body)
2) Tie some string around the throttle body so one person can hold it open (this gives easier access to the end of the cable)
3) Use a flat bladed screwdriver to push the ball end of the cable out from the throttle body
4) Remove the black plastic cover above the pedals by removing two plastic screws (be careful not to break the left most clip as ours was a little stubborn to come out
5) If you look above the throttle pedal you should see the hook end of the throttle cable connecting to the pedal mechanism, slide this hook out from its place
6) Locate where the throttle cable enters from the engine side
7) While the person inside the car pushes the two ears of the clip that is where the cable meets the firewall, the other person should gently pull the cable away from the interior from the engine bay side
8) Then pull the rest of the cable through from the interior
9) Then unclip the 5 clips that hold the cable outer in the engine bay
10) The throttle cable goes through a rubber grommet next to the brake servo
11) If you unclip the plastic bit above where the cable goes through (it is quite a large piece with 5+ clips)
12) Then the grommet should be able to be lifted up and come out with the rest of the cable
Hope this helps
