We've got 19" 326's fitted to our e89 and as the rears are close to needing replacing, we are debating the change from RFT's to non RFT's.

I've trawled through loads of previous posts on the subject and the general consensus seems that it is the way forward for ride quality, handling, cost and avoiding the dreaded cracked alloys. However, a couple of points have been raised that I can't find answers to.

There are suggestions of increasing the profile of the rears from 30 to 35, changing to a 255/35R19 would increase the diameter by an inch, but I've read that 225/35R19's which would only be 0.2 inches bigger in diameter, aren't wide enough. Would a straight replacement with a non RFT of the same size be enough?

Also as RFT's are a standard manufacturer fit, has anyone notified or had issues with insurance companies claiming that swapping them is classed as a modification?

Hi. I have no idea about sizes but in the winter I swap my 19”s for 17”s with winter tyres, both run flats. The first time I did it I called the insurance company to tell them and they weren’t the least bit interested.

From what I have heard no insurers have been bothered.
Why would you need to change profile though. you will be getting rid of harder runflat sidewalls so will see more flexibility with normal tyres.
One thing to watch is if you take back to BMW to part ex they don't like that you have changed tyres and may knock off the amount to change back. If that is the case it is best to hold onto the old tyres and swap back at time of selling on.
