A friend of mine's wife has a 2011 E89 2.5. For about the last week or so he has had the Roof not secure warning light coming on intermittently.
When the light is on the roof will not operate, it appears totally random but he thinks it started during the heavy rain recently ( maybe a coincidence).
If anyone can throw any light on this please shout up.

Thanks,

Tony.

If it's when the roof is closed, my best guess would be that it's going to be a faulty or loose sensor, in particular the one that reports the roof closed.

Best way I can think of describing it is like the old brake light switches that used to cause the lights to flicker if it wasn't located properly.

Some of the wiring that's loomed in with the moving parts on the mechanism can break, but apparently an easy ish fix

Sensor is my guess. If it was wiring it’s likely to fail mid operation. The electronics should be able to tell you. Will likely need more than a standard code reader though.

Yes, I'm going to have a look with Delphi.

Can't see any specific ODB2 body codes for roof components. Hope I'm wrong. Am guessing any non-BMW code reader will only recognise standard ODB2 code definitions. May need dedicated BMW diagnostics that can query the internal codes and registers within the roof controller rather than any it exposes on request.

Not sure you can trust Delphi kit - Gail used to sell that stuff :eek::whistle:;):bag::wideyed:

@t-tony
Did this get sorted Tony? Would be interested to know what it was.

Hi Niall, answer is I don’t know mate. Not heard from him since then. I often saw him when I was still at TT.
