E89 3.0 M/Sport (19" Run Flat) tyre pressures

Here's one for you guys. The plaque on the door says F2.3 & R2.8 BAR. The rear seems very high to me, but if that's what it says! As a matter of interest my F31 M/Sport & my 2.8 Z3 are both F/R 2.4 BAR. What pressures do you run?

We used to run to the label with the run flats, but run at 33psi now the run flats have been ditched.

No, you do not need to inform your insurer. As long as the tyres are legal and meet OE standards then you are fine

Did my first longish run in the Z4 yesterday, and I can now see why people hate the Run Flats on this car! Hit a pot hole and the dog jumped out of his skin; moving from lanes over cats eyes became really frustrating, and the tyre noise was tiresome (excuse the pun!) to put it mildly.

To be fair I've had Run Flats for 6 years on my old E91 and for the last 4 years on my current F31, and no tram lining plus not a bad ride. However, I too have suffered cracked wheels on the E91, and my wheel specialist said basically, if they running over pot holes and speed bumps etc then something has to give....and it will be the alloy wheel over time! The tyre wall on both the E91 & F31 M sports are very slightly higher but not much.

So, you guys who ditched your Run Flats what non Run Flats are you running please, and I'm really interested in your verdicts?

Did a run to Italy in the Z4 on the run flats OMG! as soon as we got back swapped to Michelin Pilot Sport 4s, been using these on the Z3M for the past 4 years too. Great tyre in the wet and dry.

That's where mine is (hopefully) heading next year, but a 200 mile round trip was enough...lol! Seems that on other E89 forums the PS4s are a popular replacement, ta.

Here's a thought. You change to non RF's and have informed your insurance company, and obviously carry a portable pump and can of 'sealer', but if it were a big hole would your breakdown policy cover you? (Bearing in mind the car was factory fitted with RF's.)

Breakdown policies have nothing to do with your insurance. If the breakdown cover is included with your insurance policy, it's most likely sub contracted to someone like Green Flag or similar who have the infrastructure of garages in place.

So it won't have any bearing on what tyres you have fitted.

Yup I appreciate that Keet. Although my breakdown cover is included in my insurance premium, it's sub contracted out. My main concern was as one would be using not factory fitted non-RF's might your breakdown cover not be valid for a catastrophic puncture?

You do not need to tell your insurer if you change to or from RFTs or winter tyres.

FYI RFTs can fail catastrophically too and fail to run flat as designed

Yes good point Naill, but more commonly it's due to a pesky screw, nail (or pop rivet in my case being around aircraft). Run flats here we come then, cheers guys
