Afternoon all,

Need to replace the discs and pads on the car, any website you'd recommend? Also, any brands to avoid or look out for? Not doing many miles in the car but brakes need attention! Also, some sites show different sizes, what should I get? The car is standard so don't need anything fancy just operational and safe

Appreciate your input 👍🏻

I used MTEC brakes on my 3.0si previously and they are as good as anything. Brembo discs are quite good with a decent coating on the hub stopping them from discolourin.

I‘ve only fitted EBC Yellowstuff pads for the last 6 or so years so can’t offer much guidance that way.

Thanks for the feedback, will look and see what I can get 👍🏻

I used M-tec discs all round on my 3.0i E85 and EBC pads, not yellow stuff. Have a look in my Z4 build thread.

Guys, a bit confused, looking on MTec site, if I order discs they come as a pair, correct? What about the pads? Do I need to change the quantity to 2 or leave as 1? 😬

Pads or shoes always come as an "axle set". Discs or drums mostly do too.

Hello,

Brakes are always a contentious product line with many options available, you will also receive many recommendations.

When ordering, discs are ordered singular so order 2 and you will receive 2 x discs, brake pads order 1 x then you will receive an axle set of 4 boxed pads.

Regarding qualities, go on recommendation and check pricing first, are you a cruiser or a racer this would also have a determining factor.

If you are a racer M-Tec and EBC may be more appropriate, if you are a cruiser and like to have a blast every now and then, try MEYLE PD High carbon coated Discs and heavy metal free pads, also reduced brake dust (available from Motormec Lowestoft) best all round performance and value Discs and Pads , if you are an every day driver then there are many brands to choose.

They will all stop you as all braking in the UK has a quality standard called Reg 90 which all braking suppliers have to conform to as a legal requirement

Hope this helps happy hunting.

They do a nice upgrade with a floating disc for the E86 brakes, uses standard fitment so no modifying needed.

If you do much spirited driving well worth the upgrade.
