E85 boot lid gas struts

Something I meant to ask a while ago.
My Z4 has a spoiler on the boot lid which obviously adds some weight, which, in turn, seems to prevent the boot from popping open. It opens a fraction of an inch, just enough to get your fingers underneath to pull it up.
I don't like using the spoiler to do this convenient though it is.
Most annoying.

So, I was wondering, if the spoiler was added after it was built, should stronger gas struts be used also or are the current ones getting a little old and weak?
Anybody any thoughts?

9 years old now so could be losing effectiveness. These aren't too bad price £18 each. You could always give them a call.

Thanks Brian - Much cheaper than other cars I've had to change them. I wasn't sure if they needed to be uprated if you have a spoiler. I'll get them changed anyway.

Both of my Z4's pop, but don't open much. Be interesting to know if better struts make a difference.

Mine maybe opens slightly less with a spoiler than it did without Ian, but still lifts enough to get my fingers under. On the plus side the extra weigh of the spoiler means it shuts itself easily with a drop of about 4-5".

Thats the issue Tony. When you've got your hands full, finding spare fingers can be a problem. I'd expect it to pop a couple of inches. Mine is barely enough to get a finger underneath. When I'm feeling better I'll go do some pics. Ta
